Conrunner 4

This section covers:

The programme will cover three main strands of conrunning:

We want to make this all as useful, involving and fun for as many people as possible, which is what we think convention programme should do anyway. Contact programme [at] conrunner [dot] site (reconstituted for email) if you have any questions not answered here.

Timing on Friday

The convention will formally open at 8.15 pm with up to two hours of programme following. We’re aiming to bring everyone together as an introduction to the con and to one another, so please try to be there if you can.

Anyone who has flashbacks to work training courses or an aversion to enforced participation can rest assured they won't be forced to say anything, make physical contact with other attendees, or solve problems involving drinking straws, balloons and/or goats. Anyone who does want to speak up and contribute should have the chance to do so, and if you want to do any of the other things please be discreet and obtain relevant consent.

There will, however, be two events on Friday afternoon for earlier attendees: a drop-in workshop (Fantasy Con Hotel) from 4 pm and the first of two tech training sessions at 5 pm – see below for sign-up information. We'll take a break from 6 pm for dinner and general socialising as other attendees arrive.

Earlier arrivals can find some information on this page about things to do out in Nottingham itself.

Programme schedule and other timing for Saturday and Sunday

There will be programme from 10 am on both Saturday and Sunday mornings, with an hour's break in the formal schedule at 1 pm on both days, when a buffet lunch will be provided.

On Saturday there will be a longer break between 6 and 8 pm for dinner, followed by two more programme items.

On Sunday we're then expecting to bring the programme to a close by 4.30 pm, so that people travelling back that day can start their journey home in reasonable time.

(Breakfast for those staying at the Park Inn will be served from 8 to 10.30 am on Saturday and Sunday, and 6.30 to 9 am on other days. Check-out time is midday on the day you're leaving, and the hotel can store luggage as needed.)

You can see an outline programme schedule here. Full details will of course be available at the con (like back in the twentieth century).

We'll put the full programme on the website a few days before the con, to help you plan your time. Anyone who subsequently wishes to comment on the irony of the item called 'You Clashed My Favourite Items and Then I Couldn't Get In' may wish to take it up, cautiously, with the programme team in the bar.

Tech training

Have you ever wondered what's going on beyond the tech desk, and why programme participants tapping their microphones are the subject of muttering and dark glares? There's a programme discussion on Saturday about better integrating tech into conventions – but if you'd like to get your eye in first, and learn another way of helping out, Martin Hoare has offered to show people the ropes. You can then take a turn taking charge of the kit (and practising your glare and mutter) during the con.

There will be two sessions: Friday at 5 pm and Saturday at 10 am. Places are limited to give everyone there a chance to have a go, so please contact if you'd definitely like to reserve one.

This Shit Doesn't Just Happen (or, How To Create Memorable Events)

Saturday at 2 pm with Chris and Jess:

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
